The Hittites obtain the secret of making usable iron by heating and hammering it when they conquer the Mitanni kingdom in Armenia. See also 1400 bce Materials; 1286 bce Materials.
The Egyptians and Mesopotamians produce glass. A glassworks from about this time at Tel-el-Amarna will be discovered by Flinders Petrie in 1894.
