John Plantagenet, duke of Bedford, returns from France, reaching London in January. He concludes an alliance with his brother Gloucester, effects a reconciliation between Gloucester and Henry Beaufort, bishop of Winchester, who is chancellor of England, and knights the infant king Henry VI.
Denmark's Erik VII launches a second war against the counts of Holstein over the issue of who shall have suzerainty over Schleswig. The north German towns of the Hanseatic League side with the counts against Erik, whose preferential policy toward Danish merchants and artisans threatens the League's trading interests (see 1428).
Vietnamese forces under the command of Le Loi continue to drive out the Chinese, capturing Dong Kinh (later Hanoi) (see 1418; 1428).
