Mathematics
Ahmes (also known as Ahmose), an Egyptian scribe, writes Directions for Attaining Knowledge of All Dark Things, better known as the Rhind papyrus, first discovered in 1858 and then purchased by a Scot named Henry Rhind. Ahmes notes that he is copying material that is about 200 years old. The manuscript contains 85 problems and their solutions, most based on arithmetic, but a few concerning geometry.
