The 1888 Democratic National Convention was a nominating convention held June 5 to 7, 1888, in the St. Louis Exposition and Music Hall in St. Louis, Missouri. The convention re-nominated incumbent Grover Cleveland for President (the first time an incumbent Democratic president had been given this honor since Martin Van Buren in 1840) and Allen G. Thurman for Vice President.
Stephen M. White served as temporary chairman and Patrick A. Collins served as the convention's permanent president. Cleveland was unanimously nominated. For Vice President, Thurman had 690 votes, Isaac P. Gray had 105 and John C. Black had 25. Patrick Collins (mayor) was president of the body.[1]
St. Louis won the convention after a presentation in February 1888.
