The 1929 Open Championship was a golf tournament played at Muirfield in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland. It was the 64th Open Championship. Walter Hagen won his second consecutive, and fourth overall, Open Championship title by six strokes over Johnny Farrell.
Percy Alliss held the lead after the first round with a 69, while Leo Diegel matched that score in the second round to take the 36-hole lead. After a first-round 75, defending champion Walter Hagen recorded an Open Championship record 67 in the second round and was two back of Diegel. Scores over the last two rounds soared. Diegel shot 82 in the third round, with Alliss and Abe Mitchell shooting 76 and 78, respectively. Hagen, meanwhile, finished with two rounds of 75, giving him 292 total and a six shot win over Johnny Farrell. Diegel was a further shot back in 3rd place, while Alliss and Mitchell shared 4th on 300. Alliss and Mitchell were the only non-Americans to finish in the top-10.
This win was Hagen's fourth Open Championship, but he played the tournament just twice more, in 1933 and 1937. Six-time champion Harry Vardon played the Open for the final time here and missed the cut.
