1994's premiere film soundtrack outshone all others -- even before its cinema premiere or the Dubai pirate videos had arrived -- due to one song. Kumar Sanu's interpretation of "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha" ("I Saw a Girl") proved that melody was in and that the spate of crudity and double entendres that had haunted the early ‘90s had had its day. Lata Mangeshkar's contribution lacks the power of her peak years but her presence is a validation of the Return of Melody. Completing the picture are six older tracks by Rahul Dev Burman (hence the & Memorable Hits of R.D. Burman of the full CD title). ~ Ken Hunt, All Music Guide
