Review

Joe Johnson & the Trumpeteers Quartet were extremely popular during the late '40s and early '50s, due in part to "Milky White Way." The tape mostly covers the Score/Aladdin years 1947-1949 before their appearance on King, Okeh, Gotham, Grand & Jubilee labels. Their style is close harmony jubilee with sparse guitar chordings. Three Nashboro cuts from the late '50s are also included. There's some duplication with a Gospel Jubilee LP. There's good overall sound quality (cassette only). ~ Opal Louis Nations, Roots & Rhythm Newsletter, All Music Guide
