Review

For this LP, the Australian Swaggie label splits the program between numbers featuring pianist Graeme Bell's regular octet (which includes trumpeter Roger Bell, clarinetist Don Roberts, trombonist Deryck Bentley and Lazy Ade Monsborough on clarinet, trumpet and alto) and smaller combos from the band, particularly dates led by Lazy Ade. There are more originals and obscurities than usual (including "Hullo Jim Eadie," "Riverina Dreams," "Rocking Horse Rag," "Sorry to Be Leavin'," "Cinderella Girl," and the exquisite "Up to No Good"), along with a few Dixielandish standards. Well worth searching for, as are virtually all of Graeme Bell's hard-to-find recordings. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
