Review

Bob Kelly's claim to fame is that he was the author of Gene Vincent's "Git It," but he also made some recordings in the '50s, some of which are included on this 22-song CD. These are non-commercial recordings that have been run through some kind of noise reduction process, and the results are muffled, but listenable, assuming you aren't too picky about such things. Kelly's version of "Git It" and "Somebody Help Me" are both available as bonus tracks in slightly better fidelity on Dragon Street Records' Gene Vincent CD The Lost Dallas Sessions. The other tracks are often quite good -- if mild -- rockabilly, particularly "When We Get Together" and "Boo!" Two bonus tracks from 1960 by Kelly's group Expression find him moving in a group harmony direction similar to the early Lettermen. ~ Greg Adams, Rovi
