Review

The music on this LP has been reissued in the Original Jazz Classics series under its original title, Quiet Kenny. The fine trumpeter Kenny Dorham is heard interpreting seven ballads (four standards and three of his originals) plus a brief "Mack the Knife" with the assistance of an excellent rhythm section comprised of pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor. Dorham's lyricism and beautiful tone are emphasized but his subtle creativity is also quite notable. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
