Review

Recorded strictly for radio airplay and not sold commercially until the release of this LP, the performances from Stan Kenton's Mellophonium Orchestra are decent but not overly memorable. The half-hour of music heard on this brief album includes Lennie Niehaus's reworking of "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," a remake of Bill Holman's famous arrangement of "Malaguena," several originals and a new version of "Artistry in Rhythm." The main soloists are altoist Gabe Baltazar and trumpeter Marvin Stamm. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
