The 1977 FIFA World Youth Championship was the inaugural staging of the FIFA World Youth Championship and was held in Tunisia from June 27 to July 10, 1977. The tournament took place in four venues — Tunis, Rades, Sousse and Sfax — where a total of 28 matches were played, the smallest number in its history. The winner was USSR, who beat Mexico by a penalty shootout, in a final held at Rades's Stade El Menzah.

The Tournament Committee was chaired by FIFA Vice-President Harry Cavan, who had spearheaded the creation of the World Youth Championship.

Notes

  1. ^ The official FIFA report indicates that the first half finished 1:0 for France, but this contradicts the data on the scoring.
  2. ^ The FIFA states "Russia" here, which is an anachronism.
  3. ^ Actually Eritrea, as the FIFA anachronistically reports.
  4. ^ a b The official FIFA report accounts no minute for this goal.
