  • March 25: Gin import Lew Massey surpass the previous all-time one-game scoring record of 75 points set by Harry Rogers in 1976, while playing for 7-Up, by tallying 85 points, converting 36-of-70 attempts from the field, in a 123-126 Gilbey's loss to Crispa Redmanizers.
  • December 7: Defeated San Miguel Beer, 102-101, to reach the PBA finals for the first time in franchise history.

Finals Appearance

  • Gilbey's Gin, with high-scoring imports, Lew Massey and Larry McNeil, reach the PBA finals of the Open Conference, the first time in franchise history's four years of participation, losing by a 3-0 sweep to powerhouse Toyota Super Corollas, reinforced by former best import awardees Andrew Fields and Donnie Ray Koonce.
