January

  • January 22 - Mendiola massacre takes place when peasant farmers rallied against President Aquino and for land reform, and ended in a bloody shooting killing 13 farmers and 74 others injured.
  • January 27-29 - Mutinous rebels seized GMA Network compound in Quezon City, leaving its employees and the network's President and C.E.O. and his family as hostages which lasted for two days as a reward for Marcos's return. The two-day plot ended in a skirmish, killing a rebel soldier and 35 others were hurt.

  • March 1 - ABS-CBN launches the Star Network for the relaunch of channel 2.
    • FM station DZOO starts its first broadcasts.

  • April 18 - Mutinous rebels staged a raid on Fort Bonifacio but it was foiled by Government troops hours after.

  • May 11 - Local elections was held in the Philippines for the first time.
  • May 14 - Metro Manila's temperature rose to 38.5 degrees celsius, was brought by the 1986-87 El Niño.

  • July 6 - Executive No. 209 (Family Code of 1987) signed by Aquino in order to provide laws and equalities for Filipino families.
  • July 25 - Executive Order No. 255 was signed by Aquino in implementing hourly OPM songs on all FM stations.

  • August 28-29 - Coup attempt takes place when rebel soldiers made a threatened reprisal against Aquino and ended in a gunfight with 50 people killed and 200 others wounded as Government troops fizzled the plot.
  • August 31 - FM station NU 107 starts its first broadcasts on rock music.
