The 17th Golden Raspberry Awards were held on March 23, 1997 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel to recognise the worst the movie industry had to offer in 1996. Striptease took home the most Razzies of the evening, winning 6 out of 7 nominations, including Worst Picture. Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame earned a Razzie nominee for the "Worst Written Film Grossing Over $100 Million" becoming the second Disney film, after Newsies, second animated film, aside with MTV's, Beavis and Butthead Do America,which was nominated for "Worst Screen Couple", and "Worst New Star" , after 1994's Thumbelina, and is, so far, the only animated Disney film to ever be nominated for a Razzie Award.
