Key Date

  • April 30 at the Araneta Coliseum, Purefoods defeated Ginebra, 93-85 in a clash between two teams who have won all three of their games in the first round of semis, a record crowd-attendance with more than 16,000 fans troop to the Big Dome.

Season Recap

  • All-Filipino Cup, 8-win, 6-loss record at the end of the two-round eliminations, won six straight games in the semis for a return trip to the All-Filipino finals, lost to Alaska, 4-1 in the championship. Hired the controversial former Swift import Ronnie Thompkins, as their reinforcement in the Commissioners Cup, Thompkins debut in Purefoods uniform by scoring 34 points in a 108-87 victory over San Miguel Beer, Purefoods and Sunkist battle in a playoff for the last semifinals slot, the Hotdogs won, 89-76. Thompkins tested positive on drug used, he saw action for the last time in Purefoods' 84-101 loss to Sta.Lucia at the start of the semifinals, his replacement, Derrick Gervin, was also found out positive on drug test conducted by the PBA, import woes continue to hunt the Purefoods, now known as Corned Beef Cowboys during the Governors Cup, the team change imports five times, Dennis Hopson, Mark Hill, Jojo English, Anthony Tolbert and Kennard Winchester, but still bowed out in the final four race.
