The 1998 Purefoods Carne Norte Beefies season is the 11th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). return to their old name Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs starting the Commissioners Cup.

  • March 8: Purefoods Beefies halted Gordon's Gin Boars' cruise to the semis, with a 93-80 victory on the eve of Gordon's playing coach Sonny Jaworski's 52nd birthday celebration.
  • May 30: Purefoods TJ Hotdogs bested Sta.Lucia Realtors, 92-88, in Legaspi City, for their first win in three games in the ongoing Commissioners Cup.
  • June 7: Playing All-Filipino, the TJ Hotdogs nip San Miguel Beer, 77-76. Alvin Patrimonio filled up the slack left by new import Khari Jaxon, who suffered a sprained ankle in practice.

Season Recap

  • Purefoods didnt enter the finals in all conferences of the 1998 season, only the second time in their 11-year history, the Carne Norte beefies failed to defend the All-Filipino crown and had their lowest placing, 5th in the tourney the team used to dominate.
  • Returning to their old monicker, Tender Juicy Hotdogs in the Commissioner's Cup, injuries to their imports, Ken Redfield and Khari Jaxon hurt their chances, Purefoods got the services of Roy Hairston as their third import, the Hotdogs didnt make it to the final four.
  • In the Centennial Cup and Governor's Cup, the Hotdogs landed in good imports, particularly Lance Miller, Purefoods finish the eliminations in tie with three other teams, Shell, Mobiline and San Miguel at first place with a 9-6 won-loss card. the Hotdogs lost to Mobiline Phone Pals in a playoff game for the finals berth. Purefoods places third by defeating San Miguel Beer in their best-of-three series, first time in franchise history the Hotdogs will receive second runner-up honors.
