The 1st Canadian Regiment was raised on November 19, 1775 at Pointe-Olivier, Quebec for service with the Continental Army. They saw action at the Battle of Fort St-Jean, Battle of Trois-Rivières, Battle of Quebec (1775), Fort Stanwix and the Battle of Rhode Island. The regiment was disbanded January 1, 1781 at King's Ferry, New York. Pointe-Olivier is now called Saint-Mathias and it's on the Richelieu River near the Fort Chambly.
The 1st Canadian Regiment of James Livingston was composed of Quebeckers, French, Acadian and American colonists living in Quebec. It fought with Benedict Arnold at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. This crucial victory by the Americans led to a full French alliance with the Americans four months later in February 1778. Until this point, France only provided funds.
