Henriquez, like the other great names of last-generation accordion-quartet merengue típico, stood out only on quality, not style, from the guys who came into town on Sunday to play for dimes. The craggy rural voice, the punch of the accordion, the drive of the tambora drum, the slashing guira scraper, are all (marvellously) as close to the roots as you can get. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, Rovi
