Notes
- Fastest Lap: Michael Schumacher 1:08.337
- Michael Schumacher took pole position in this race despite a huge slide on his qualifying lap.
- Cristiano da Matta's faulty launch control caused two aborted starts.
- Heinz-Harald Frentzen did not take part in the race start, as the field set off on the final parade lap, the Sauber driver was left behind. He rushed off to get the T-car but there was not enough time to get everything switched over from Nick Heidfeld's settings and so Frentzen's day was over.
- During Michael Schumacher's pit stop, his Ferrari car briefly caught fire due to a leak from the refuelling nozzle, costing him about 15–20 seconds.
- The last few laps were memorable for a battle between Kimi Räikkönen and Rubens Barrichello for second place, Räikkönen successfully keeping his McLaren ahead of the clearly faster Ferrari of Barrichello.
- As of 2011[update], this was the last Austrian Grand Prix.
