Spotlight: Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott set out on their famous midnight ride warning American colonists that "the British are coming!" on this date in 1775. Only Prescott was able to get through to warn the militia of the ensuing invasion. Their ride was immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem.
Quote: "And so through the night went his cry of alarm To every Middlesex village and farm; A cry of defiance, and not of fear." -- Henry W. Longfellow, "Paul Revere's Ride"
Word of the day: belfry: tower in which bells are hung; Revere waited for a signal lamp to be hung in the Old North Church belfry arch. )
