The 2008 Australian Open is a Grand Slam tennis tournament held in Melbourne, Australia from 14 January through 27 January, 2008.
After 20 years of playing on Rebound Ace, the tournament will change to Plexicushion, a marginally faster surface. The new surface will be thinner, and will therefore have lower heat retention. This has been done in a bid to reduce the "stick" of the court and the frequency of the extreme heat policy being invoked. However, the new surface has been criticised for being too similar to DecoTurf, the surface used at the U.S. Open.
