The 2011 AFC-NFC Pro Bowl is an upcoming National Football League (NFL) Pro Bowl, a game to honor the all-star players of the 2010 NFL season as selected by fans and their peers.

As a result of backlash from players and critics about the decision to move the 2010 Pro Bowl to the continental United States, in Miami, Florida, the 2011 and 2012 Pro Bowls will return to Honolulu [1], despite rumors of it being played in Cowboys Stadium[2].

The date of the Pro Bowl is not yet determined as a NFL spokesman stated that "Plans for future Pro Bowls are not final",[3] and it is unknown whether the Pro Bowl will revert to its tradition of being played after the Super Bowl or before it, like it will be in 2010.

Background

In 2010, the NFL's partnership with Hawaii's Aloha Stadium was finished,[dubious ] and commissioner Roger Goodell reviewed several options of locations for the Pro Bowl. Eventually, it was decided that the 2010 Pro Bowl would be played at Dolphin Stadium in Miami where the Super Bowl will be held. Goodell also decided the Pro Bowl would be played before Super Bowl XLIV after "looking at alternatives to strengthen the Pro Bowl".[4]

Soon after Goodell made the decision to play the Pro Bowl in Miami, it was immediately criticized by players such as Peyton Manning and coaches,[5] who cited that "If the tradition continues, eventually the game will be held in cities that are not desirable vacation destinations". The move was also criticized for being moved ahead of the Super Bowl because it could risk injury to players that will be participating in the more important Super Bowl.
