Review
Composer Shigeru Umebayashi (Mood for Love, House of the Flying Daggers) paints director Wong Kar Wai's surreal sci-fi/drama/romance 2046 with such a sepia-toned brush that it's hard to think of it as a modern soundtrack. Like a tear in the fabric of the Silver Screen, Umebayashi somehow manages to evoke the romance of old Hollywood, the unpredictability of French cinema, and the sinewy world of David Lynch with both confidence and fluidity.
