Review

Level 42's entry in the extensive midline 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection series contains a dozen highlights from the band's catalog. Natural picks "Something About You," "Lessons in Love," "Running With the Family," and even the great early-'80s underground club staple "Starchild" -- four of their five charting U.S. singles, in fact -- are included, along with some smart and not-so-smart album-track selections. This release is perfectly fine for those who just want the familiar, but the lack of depth (part of the design of the compilation series) means that it's not a fair representation of Level 42's career. The Ultimate Collection, released by Polydor in 2002, does a good job at that. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
