31st century

The 31st century AD will span from January 1, 3001 – December 31, 3100 of the Gregorian calendar. It will be the first century of the 4th millennium.

Astronomical events

• December 18, 3089: First transit of Venus which is not part of a pair since November 23, 1396.
• Due to the precession of the equinoxes, γ Cephei will be the pole star between 3000 and 5200.

Fiction

• The Simpsons episode, "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Guest Star", the ending is set in 3005, a thousand years after the episode was first broadcast in 2005.
• The Guardians of the Galaxy of Marvel Comics are active in the 31st century. They first appeared in January 1969.
• In the Marvel Universe, the time travelling sorcerer Sise-Neg, who impersonated Alessandro Cagliostro in the 18th century, is native to the 31st century.
• The Japanese-French cartoon series Ulysses 31 transposes the events of The Odyssey to the 31st century.
• The TV show Futurama mainly takes place in the last two years of the 30th century (2999–3000) in the first two seasons and in the third season and beyond in takes place in the first years of the 31st century (3001–3011). In this series, the head of Richard M. Nixon wins the planetary election of 3000 and becomes president of Earth.
• 3001: The Final Odyssey, the final novel in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series takes place in 3001.
• "Preludio para el año 3001" is a tango by Ástor Piazzolla with lyrics by Horacio Ferrer.
• The 20th Century Fox movie Titan A.E. takes place in the early 31st century. In that century, the Earth has been destroyed in the year 3028-the rest of the movie takes place in 3043-44.
• The prototype battle unit from the future, MEGAS (of the animated series Megas XLR) and its previous owner, Kiva, are from this century.
• The Star Trek: Voyager episode "Living Witness" takes places in the latter half of the 31st century, approximately 700 years after the rest of the series.
• In Star Trek: Enterprise, one of the factions involved in the Temporal Cold War is from the 31st century. In the episode "Shockwave", Captain Jonathan Archer is briefly transported to the 31st century in an alternate timeline in which the United Federation of Planets was never established. According to Enterprise, time travel has become a commonly used method of exploration by this point.
• DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes titles are set 1000 years after "the present day", meaning that more recent stories are set in the 31st century.
• Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Dan the Automator, and Kid Koala produced the high-concept hip-hop album Deltron 3030, a story of corporate destruction and love lost in a post-apocalyptic 31st-century universe.
• In the manga series Biomega by Tsutomu Nihei, 3005 is the year when the story begins with humans successfully landing on Mars.
• The Webcomic Schlock Mercenary is set solely in the early 31st century, presumably beginning in the year 3000 and progressing to the current year of 3006. The recent introduction of time travel to the storyline may alter this, of course.
• All of the "recent events" of the Classic BattleTech timeline occur in the 31st century.
• The TV show Rocket Robin Hood takes place in 3001 and follows the adventures of Robin Hood's descendant Rocket Robin Hood and the rest of the Merry Men who travel on the mobile, rocket-powered Sherwood Asteroid.
• The 2000 episode of the cartoon Courage the Cowardly Dog titled "1000 Years of Courage" takes place in the year 3001, where the human race has evolved into living bananas. A space rock hits the farmhouse and sends Eustace, Muriel, and Courage into the year 3001.
• The 1998 music video "Victory" by Puff Daddy (and featuring Notorious B.I.G. & Busta Rhymes) takes place in 3002 and follows the adventures of a 'runner' from the 'New World Order'.
• On the cartoon Lazer Tag Academy, Jamie Jaryn travels to 1987 from 3010 to save her ancestors from Draxon Dreer.
• In the South Park episode "Goobacks", the time machine is invented in 3045. All humans are bald; have a pale orange complexion; adopt a Latin-American culture; and speak 'Futurespeak', a blend of all world languages. In 3045, inflation rates are so extremely high that people travel back to 2004 so they can work for pittance and then invest the money in banks to gather interest to support their families in the future.
• Also in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, 3010 is the year that Brian Boitano travels to in order to fight an evil robot king and save the human race (again).
• In the manga and anime series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo the series takes place in the year 300X (Three thousand X) though in the American version of the anime it's 3001.5.
• The Japanese manga and anime series Trinity Blood takes place in an indeterminate time in the future, 900 years after an apocalyptic war between all of Earth's nations destroyed civilization, when humanity has reestablished itself (armageddon), in the half of the 31st century.
• Galactic Champions, a far-future setting for the Champions superhero role-playing game from Hero Games using the Hero System, is set in the early 31st century.
• The Widespread Panic song "Don't Tell the Band" sets the apocalypse at the year 3010.
• The Saturday Night Live and The Lonely Island song "Space Olympics" in set in the year 3022.
• Scars on Broadway released a song named 3005 on their debut album entitled Scars on Broadway
• The year 3053 marks the beginning of the events in the Science Fiction novel Rainbow Mars by Larry Niven.
• Ulysses incurs the wrath of the Gods of Olympus by slaying the Giant Cyclops (Ulysses 31)
• The stop-motion film Live Freaky! Die Freaky! is set in 3069.
• The beginning of the novel Venus on the Half-Shell is set in 3069.
• "You'll never survive 3005" as said in the song 3005 by Scars On Broadway.
• In the TV show Planet of the Apes the ships chronometer indicates that the astronauts are marooned on a future Earth sometime after March 21, 3085. According to the TV show another ship crash landed on the 'Earth' 10 years ago.
• The RPG, Mechquest by Artix Entertainment is set from years 3007-3010 AD, and continuing as time advances.
• The Real-Time online strategy game "eridani" Takes place in 3012
• Quoted by hip-hop band The Black Eyed Peas in their song "Boom Boom Pow" (3008) and in the video "Imma be" (3008)
