Meton of Athens [b. Athens, c. 440 bce] develops what we now call the Metonic cycle, the (approximately) 19-year period in which the motions of the Sun and Moon seem to come together from our vantage point on Earth. This period can be used to predict eclipses and forms the basis of the Greek and Jewish calendars. See also 475 bce Astronomy.
