Review

PolyGram Special Markets' 45's on CD, Vol. 1 (1962-1964) is a collection of ten pop singles from the PolyGram vaults that were hits during those three years. The disc boasts a nice balance of familiar hits and forgotten tunes, featuring such songs as Paul & Paula's "Hey Paula," Lesley Gore's "It's My Party," the Singing Nun's "Dominique," the Cravelles' "You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry," Diane Renay's "Navy Blue," the Serendipity Singers' "Don't Let the Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man)," Dusty Springfield's "Wishin' and Hopin'," the Angels' "My Boyfriend's Back," Shangri-Las' "Leader of the Pack" and Connie Francis' "Follow the Boys." It's a nice, varied selection that's not always seen on a budget-priced disc, making it worthwhile for casual fans on a tight budget. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
