The Fifty-Second Oklahoma Legislature is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the government of Oklahoma, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is scheduled to meet in Oklahoma City from February 2, 2009 to February 3, 2011, during the second two years of the second administration of Governor Brad Henry. This is the first session in state history where the Republican Party has controlled both houses of the legislature.[1]

  • HB 1127-Provided $7 Million to allow the OSU Medical Center to continue to operate
  • HB 2030-Created a "Silver Alert" for senior citizens who have gone missing, similar to the Amber Alert used to find missing children[2]
  • HB 1595-Would prohibit a mother from aborting her baby based solely on the sex of the child[3]
  • SB 318-Will eliminate the state sales tax on groceries by 2012[4]
  • HB 1603-Requires Oklahomans wishing to file a malpractice lawsuit against their doctor to prove before a third party that the case is not frivolous[5]

  • HB 1312-Would have mandated insurance coverage for children with autism[6] (Failed in the State Senate)
  • HB 1326-Would have made it a crime for a scientist to perform any form of embryonic stem cell research (Vetoed by the Governor)[7]
  • SB 834-Would allow school districts to easily convert schools into charter schools, a move that would exempt them from most state mandates[8] (Vetoed by the Governor)
  • HJR 1022-Would term-limit all statewide elected offices (Failed in committee)
