Construction

The earliest known pointed arch, called an ogive in cathedral architecture, to which we can assign a date is built at Qasr-ibn-Wardan (Syria), although an older pointed arch on a Roman colonnade of uncertain date at Diarbekr (Turkey) also exists. See also 1104 Construction.
