Review

5ive produces dirty, long, instrumental metal songs full of distortion and excess. While it consists of no more than six songs, this album is over 50 minutes in length. For those who are into metal to listen to while they study or read a book, this album will do. While the artwork on this release is beautifully arranged, the music seems to lack any means by which to stick out to the listener, but perhaps that's not what the band necessarily wanted. All in all, an interesting idea, but something which only diehards of the metal genre would plunk down hard-earned cash to purchase. ~ Kurt Morris, Rovi

Biography

A British boy-band in the tradition of Take That -- and backed by the same management team which launched the career of the Spice Girls -- 5ive comprised Scott Robinson (underwear of choice: Calvin Klein boxers), Sean Conlon (Calvins as well), Rich Neville (another Calvin man), Jason Brown (tight-fitting boxers) and Richard "Abs" Breen (silk boxers). Their debut 5ive The Album was released in mid-1998; Invincible followed two years later. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

5ive, also written as Five, is the self-titled debut album by English pop rap band Five. Released in the United Kingdom on 22 June 1998, the album topped the UK Albums Chart, the only Five album to do so. When the album was released in the United States on 14 July 1998, it charted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making it the most successful album by the band in the region. Largely produced by Jake Schulze and Denniz Pop, 5ive spawned six singles, of which all but one reached the top-ten of the UK Singles Chart, the exception – "It's The Things You Do" – having only been released in the United States. On 4 December 1998, the British Phonographic Industry awarded the album a platinum certification, an accolade later matched by the Recording Industry Association of America.
