Etymologia sive origine ("etymologies") by Isidore of Seville [b. Cartagena (Spain), c. 560, d. Seville (Spain), April 4, 636] is a first attempt at a general synthesis of pre-Christian learning. Drawing heavily on Pliny the Elder, it is filled with legends and immensely popular at the time (about 1000 manuscripts survive). See also 77 ce Communication.
