6th October City is the capital of the 6th of October Governorate in Egypt. Population: About 500,000 [1] A new cosmopolitan city, it hosts students of many nationalities who seek education at its private universities.

Establishment

The city was established in 1979 by the 504th presidential decree of president Anwar El Sadat. It is 17 km far from the great pyramids of Giza and 32 km far from Cairo downtown.[2] The city has a total area of 97.4 thousand feddans (400 km2) and is expected to have 3.7 million inhabitants as a population.[3] The city was announced to be capital of the 6th of October Governorate in April, 2008.

The city's name commemorates Egypt's military success at the start of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The 6th of October is also Egypt's Armed Forces Day.


Vital Headquarters

6 October City is the headquarter of The Confederation of African Football. Aditionally, Media Production City (MPC) is the biggest ever built information and media complex, which, together with the Egyptian media satellites "Nilesat 101", "Nilesat 102", will allowed Egypt to step into the new world of the 21st century. Thereby, Egypt will be well-qualified and well-equipped to maintain its pioneering role in the field of satellite television and to provide television and film production facilities that can support the information breakthrough.
