Biography

It's no surprise that Britain's ska-tinged comedy rock act 7 Seconds of Love is the creation of Joel Veitch, the Internet animator behind cult website www.rathergood.com and Quizno's ads featuring the infamous Spongmonkeys. After recruiting his brother Alex Veitch to play keyboards, Joel met the five other musicians who would round out the act -- Pat Schulenburg (guitar), Ed Snow (drums), Ed Harding (trumpet), Ian Paterson (saxophone), and Stephen Pattison (bass). The band started playing shows in London, later expanding to regional and national gigs, as well as maintaining an enthusiastic online following thanks to Joel's animated music videos and the release of singles on iTunes}. In January 2007, fans in Argentina alerted 7 Seconds of Love that a Coca-Cola commercial being shown in the country bore a striking similarity to the group's song and video for "Ninja." A legal agreement was reached with the company in which Coca-Cola paid the band an undisclosed sum; 7 Seconds of Love used some of the money to record and distribute an EP, and then donated the rest to two children's charities. ~ Katherine Fultonwww.rathergood.com} and Quizno's ads featuring the infamous Spongmonkeys. 7 Seconds of Love are an English ska/Two Tone band fronted by musician and animator Joel Veitch that writes and plays songs with often nonsensical lyrics. Veitch animates many videos of the band's songs, such as "Ninja" and "First Drink of the Day". Some songs have had videos directed by guitarist Pat Schulenburg, such as their most recent production "Twister". The band regularly tours the United Kingdom. The animations are available on Veitch's website and the band's site.

The band's first official single was "Twister" as an iTunes exclusive, but they have recently released "Love Me Like You Used To" and "Ninja" as a double A-side single. Originally the MP3's of these tunes were available free, but these are new, fully re-recorded versions available for sale.

The song "Soupy George" has also inspired fans of the band to turn up at gigs wearing soup cans (either real, empty tins of soup or artistic representations) on their heads.

The band's long-awaited debut album, Danger is Dangerous, was released in September 2008.

Coca-Cola plagiarism

The band sought legal advice after a Coca-Cola advertisement in Argentina featured music and animation very similar to that of the film clip for Ninja which the band had made available on their MySpace account and on YouTube. [1]

After talks, Coca-Cola agreed to an out of court settlement of an undisclosed sum. [2]
