The 9mm Glisenti cartridge was developed for the Glisenti Model 1910, an Italian sidearm used in the First World War. It was also used in other Italian weapons such as the Beretta Model 1915 and 1923 pistols, Beretta Model 1918 submachine gun and Villar-Perosa aircraft submachine gun. The cartridge was based on the German 9×19mm Parabellum, but it is significantly less powerful, meant to be used in blowback pistols, easier to manufacture than a locked breech firearm, instead of 9mm Parabellum.
