Michaela Schaffrath (born in Eschweiler, Germany) is a German television actress. She gained international notoriety during her former (short-lived) career as a pornographic actress under the stage name Gina Wild.
Schaffrath was born to a working class family in Eschweiler where she grew up. Her father was a mason while her mother was a homemaker. After gaining her degree in nursing she lead a seemingly quiet life; getting married at twenty-five, enjoying her hobbies of in-line skating, reading and physical fitness. She applied her nursing skills to work with disable children, which she did for a decade before becoming one of Germany's most popular hardcore porn stars in 1999 and 2000.
Shaffrath and her husband were swingers. In 1999, Harry S. Morgan, a notable pornographic film director in Europe, discovered Schaffrath and her husband Axel on an amateur porn video. Morgan tracked down and hired Schaffrath, producing several well-received videos with Shaffrath in the star role under the name Gina Wild.
She won two Venus Awards (for Best New Starlet in1999 and Best German Actress in 2000)[1]). In 2001 Schaffrath retired from pornography and moved into mainstream acting,[2] and has since appeared in numerous German television series, such as TV total, In aller Freundschaft and Wer wird Millionär?.[3] After being recognised by a fan, she admitted in 2003 that she was working in a Frankfurt brothel, but stated it was because she was addicted to sex, rather than to make money.[2] In 2005 she put the rights to her stage name and the brand Gina Wild up for sale, in an attempt to shed her porn star past.[1] She is managed by her former husband, and as of 2009 she lived in both Frankfurt and Hamburg.[1]
