Prior to the era of the cellular phone, people turned to a
simple little portable communications device that allowed them to
stay in touch: the pager. However, since the dawn of the cell
phone, the pager has pretty much faded into the wind.
However, there is one large group of people that still find the
pager a pretty useful device, and that group is doctors. Many
times, doctors have to make themselves available for patient calls
after hours, and the pager is a great way to get phone numbers
relayed to them when they aren’t at the office.
Even though the pager is a somewhat dying technology, it doesn’t
mean people have given up on it. Doctors today have the opportunity
to select pagers that do many different things, not just display a
phone number for a return call.
Many pagers today contain full keyboards, because they have
adapted to the popular text messaging technology. While these
pagers still retain the incoming phone number technology, they can
now send and receive text messages, making them a more versatile
device.
No matter what type of pager doctors are looking into, they
aren’t going to have to spend a lot of money to add it to their
repertoire. Most pagers can be found for under $50 for the unit,
with very low monthly fees, no matter which company service is
purchased from.
Doctors need to be readily available when on call, and having a
pager is just another way for them to make themselves available.
They can receive relay calls from emergency numbers or from the
patients directly. Either way, the pager is a very useful piece of
technology for people in the medical profession.
