No. most scimitar (like most other curved blades in europe or
middle east, like falchion or the germanic messer) were
singlehanded blades, and therefore quite lightweight - normally
between 1kg (2lbs) and 1.3kg (2 1/2lbs) in weight.
In actual use, a heavy sword (or any melee weapon) was a
liability, as it would be slower to use, and thus, harder for the
user to attack with. A heavy powerful cut is useless, if you're
killed before you can make your swing.
