The townsite was deserted after rebel colonists under the leadership of Nathaniel Bacon burned Jamestown in 1676. The rebels accused Governor William Berkeley of having failed to protect them from Indian raids.

Stephenville was settled in 1854. In the first two years of it's settlement the townsite was successful and by 1858 the population was 776. The town is located in what was Commanche territory and Indian raids were common.

Round Pond Oklahoma no longer exists. The townsite is about one-half mile south of the ghost town of Jefferson, OK in Grant County, and only existed from 1893 to 1897. A complete story of the town and Northwestern Oklahoma can be found in Jim Fulbright's book "Trails to Old Pond Creek"

Answer: Port Angeles, Washington as designated by Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln ordered a reservation of land here in 1862 for a lighthouse and military use. Later Port Angeles became a townsite reserve, and by Congressional act in March, 1863, Port Angeles was designated as America's Second National City, the alternative capital of the United States.
