A Big Boy did it and Ran Away (2001), is Christopher Brookmyre's sixth
novel.
Raymond Ash is struggling with the banal reality of his life as an English teacher. After selling his video game shop and settling down with his wife and new baby, Ray is having to face the fact that Real Life doesn't come with an escape key and multiple lives. Meanwhile his old friend Simon from university isn't quite as dead as he's supposed to be, and is instead enjoying life as one of the world's most infamous professional terrorists.
When Ray sees Simon walking through Glasgow airport on the way to his latest terrorist outrage he doesn't believe his eyes, Simon on the other-hand only sees a problem from his past who needs to be erased.
It's not long before Ray's been shot at, abducted, tied up, threatened, escaped with his life and featured in the papers - blamed for kidnapping two of his pupils - but will the police believe what really happened? and just what is the mysterious "Black Spirit" doing in Scotland?
