A Burial At Ornans (French: Un enterrement à Ornans, also known as A Funeral At Ornans) is an 1851 painting by Gustave Courbet. Its subject matter and imagery is based around Courbet's observations at the September 1848 funeral of his great-uncle.
Its exhibition at the 1851 Paris Salon created an "explosive reaction" and brought Courbet instant fame.[1] It is currently displayed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, France.
