Lemsine, Aïcha (b. 1942). Algerian novelist, born in the Némencha, married to a diplomat, Ahmed Laïdi. She has published two novels. La Chrysalide (1976) purports to follow the evolution of the family and the role of women in Algeria, but the result is ambiguous. Ciel de porphyre (1978) describes the Algerian War through a diary written by an adolescent surrounded by stereotyped female characters living in an inauthentic world. Her essay Ordalie des voix (1983) was translated into Arabic as Hukm alaswat.
