Review

CEMA Special Markets' 25 Best-Loved Holiday Classics: A Christmas Treasury is an excellent budget-priced collection of classic Christmas and holiday tunes from the EMI-Capitol vaults. There's quite a bit of variety on the album -- it ranges from choirs to vocal pop to rock & roll to country -- but it instead of working against the album, the diverse music distinguishes the record. No other holiday compilation boasts Bing Crosby ("I Wish You a Merry Christmas"), the King's Singers ("Deck the Hall"), Al Martino ("O Come All Ye Faithful"), Lena Horne ("The Little Drummer Boy"), Jose Feliciano ("Feliz Navidad"), Ella Fitzgerald ("It Came Upon a Midnight Clear"), Tanya Tucker ("What Child Is This"), Les Brown ("The Nutcracker Suite"), Peggy Lee ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), Dean Martin ("White Christmas"), the Beach Boys ("We Three Kings"), the Lettermen ("O Holy Night"), the Roger Wagner Chorale ("Good King Wenceslas"), and Wayne Newton ("Silent Night"). And the very fact that they're all available on one inexpensive collection makes 25 Best-Loved Holiday Classics one of the more worthwhile budget-line comps available. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
