A Frames is postpunk, noise rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1999. The trio consists of Erin Sullivan, Min Yee and Lars Finberg. The band called itself Bend Sinister before Finberg joined the band.[1][2] A Frames cites the Cows, Joy Division and Scratch Acid among its influences.[3] A Frames started its own label, Dragnet Records, in January 2000 in order to release music, although the band signed with Sub Pop Records for the release of Black Forest. The band members also play in other acts including The Intelligence, the Dipers and Climax Golden Twins. All the members still hold day jobs. Sullivan is a photographer for Corbis, Yee works for a school district and Finberg works for Amazon.com.[4]

Musical style

A Frames sing about technology and apocalyptic cultural shifts, although many of the lyrics and themes are meant to be humorous. The band's style has also been described as experimental noise as [5] the vocals are dark, monotone and bleak while the sound is aggressive. The drum beat is often mechanical and pounding, producing a raw, minimalistic sound.[6] The sloppy, chaotic and sharp chords, however, are kept in line by the ever-steady rhythm. All the music stays with in the parameters of the punk rock formula.[7]
