Biography

Guitarist Mark Delahanty was born in Boston, MA, but grew up in Montreal, Canada. Karen Holley lived all her life in Sault St. Marie, Canada, until she met Delahanty one fateful night in 1992. He and his band, Gilt, were performing at a nightclub when a friend of Holley's pushed her up onto the stage to sing. Delahanty and Holley seemed to click instantly and she became a full member of the band, providing backing vocals and working the drums. When Gilt dissolved nine months later, the two took to performing and sharing songwriting duties. In 1997 they officially formed A Is A, which included ex-Sass Jordan members -- drummer Bruce Moffat and bassist Stan Miczek. The band signed to Loggerhead/Polygram Records, releasing Thinking Chair in June 1999. ~ Roxanne Blanford, All Music Guide
