After the sinking of the Maine, President McKinley needs a man to deliver a message to Cuban rebel leader General Garcia. He chooses Lieutenant Rowan (R obert Conness), who has to elude crafty female spy Rosa Gonzalles (Helen Strickland) and a group of determined Spanish soldiers. With the help of the sympathetic Dolores (Mabel Trunnelle), he manages to complete his mission, but Dolores sacrifices her own life to make it happen. This story of the Spanish-American War was first a book by Elbert Hubbard; it was also remade as a talkie starring John Boles and Barbara Stanwyck in 1936. As is the case with most feature films, neither picture can be considered anywhere near historically accurate. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
