Biography

Argentinean hardcore metal band formed by guitarist Andrés Giménez, bassist Marcelo Corbalán, and drummer Anibal Aló in the early '90s. A.N.I.M.A.L. is a short cut for Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar (while being chased, our natives died fighting). The band's name symbolizes its lyrics, based on the killing and expropriation suffered by South American aborigines. In 1993, A.N.I.M.A.L.'s debut album was released. A year later, original drummer Anibal Aló was replaced by Martin Carrizo, recording Fin De Un Mundo Enfermo. In 1996, after signing up to Warner Music, the band moved to the U.S. to make El Nuevo Camino Del Hombre, which became a gold record in Argentina; touring Mexico and North America soon after. In 1998 drummer Andres Villanova joined in, recording Poder Latino, featuring "Cinco Siglos Igual,," made along with singer/songwriter Leon Gieco. After issuing Usa Toda Tu Fuerza in 1999, Warner Music released A.N.I.M.A.L.'s sixth album on June 26th, 2001. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide

A.N.I.M.A.L. (Acosados Nuestros Indios Murieron Al Luchar) (meaning Harassed, Our Indians Died While Fighting) was a Groove metal band from Argentina.

The band was founded by the singer and guitarist Andrés Giménez in 1992 under the name of "Animal", but due to legal issues the name was changed to the spelling A.N.I.M.A.L. The band's sound is Groove Metal, (then changed to Nu Metal), and most lyrics deal with issues of ethnic minorities and indigenous people of Latin America; witnessed by song titles such as Sólo Por Ser Indios ("Only For Being Indian"), Guerra De Razas ("Race War"), Poder Latino ("Latin Power") and Raza Castigada ("Punished Race").

The band experienced commercial success in the mid-to-late 1990s and toured throughout a number of Latin American countries, the United States and Europe. When longtime bassist Marcelo "Corvata" Corvalán and then drummer Andres "El Niño" Vilanova (who joined in 1998 at age 17) left the band in 1999, the band entered a decline as many fans started losing interest in it.

In 2006 it was announced that the band would take an indefinite break; this resulted in Martín Carrizo's (drummer) leaving the band and Andrés Giménez forming a new band called "D-mente" (word play meaning both demente ("lunatic") and devil mente ("devil mind", or "weak mind" --although weak in Spanish is débil not devil-- Andrés' nickname). Titi Lapolla and Martín Carrizo are part of Power of Soul.
