Review

The Aït Bou Guemmez live high in the High Atlas Mountains, and their isolation from mainstream Moroccan culture is such that the women do not even speak Arabic. The music here is, therefore, a quite pure example of Berber music. In broad outline it is not unfamiliar: large-scale festive singing accompanied by bendir tambourine and good examples of the single-reed pipes also with bendir. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, Rovi
