Writer Robert Barr wrote a series of stories about a handsome young hero named Lord Stranleigh for the Saturday Evening Post, and this Edison feature is based on them. When Lord Stranleigh (Marc MacDermott) returns home his fiancee, Lady Sinclair (Miriam Nesbitt), throws him a party. But when the lights are temporarily dimmed at the stroke of twelve, her valuable pearl necklace is stolen. Through his investigation, Stranleigh figures out that the thief is Ralph Vernon (Edward Earle), who is also planning to elope with Lady Sinclair's sister, Lady Genevieve (Viola Dana, then a stage star but not yet a screen luminary). Stranleigh gets the pearls back from Vernon and suggests that he leave town -- alone -- as quickly as possible. Vernon does, and Stranleigh comforts the weeping Genevieve. But Lady Sinclair catches them together and misunderstands the situation. Genevieve, however, explains all and the couple are reconciled. Vernon, meanwhile, writes that he has gone to India and promises to reform. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
