Slogan in German on a sign at the motorway

A time to make friends (German official slogan: Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden) was the official slogan of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which was held from June 9 to July 9, 2006 in Germany.

Invented by Austrian artist André Heller, the slogan was presented on November 19, 2002 in the FIFA Stadium Gelsenkirchen. It was to express the Germans' hospitality especially during the World Cup.

It was quoted frequently (outside Germany as well) and predominantly in a well-meaning manner. It reflected the atmosphere during the World Cup quite appropriately.
